Minority Aid for Whites
Is it just me, or does that sound a bit Orwellian? This Times article discusses how grant money set aside for minorities is now being made available for whites. Now, I understand that the law is fuzzy and many schools fear lawsuits, but I'm sad to see administrators caving. I remember PLNU boasting that its numbers of minorities was higher than national averages and being absolutely amazed that such a white-washed school was doing "well." Now, I know they are far from perfect, but I support equal opportunity efforts like affirmative action as a way to bring about effective change in the racial makeup of the country's professional and educational populations. I have heard a few anecdotal accounts of how stupid selections are forced by such laws, but the strongest arguments I have heard against them always seem so couched in racism. Does this article upset anyone else, or is it just me?

Apparently It Wasn't Media Fabrication
This Washington Post article is quite saddening. It turns out the numbers deaths we're hearing as Iraq descends into civil war are underestimates. Of course, the US military denies it, but what would you expect?

Cardinal Mahoney on Immigration "Reform"
This is some great news out of the archdiocese of Los Angeles. Hopefully the church will do more to resist draconian immigration laws.

Hmm... We still need more data...
Still? Anyone who's talked to me more than five minutes probably knows how much I loathe the Bush administration. Of all the F-ups under their belt, when dubya was elected for the first time to carry out a second term--remember when he was appointed that first time?--the thing that concerned me the most about four more years in the wrong direction was the disastrous effects that result from four more years of doing nothing about global warming and the environment in general. Also, anybody catch the video of Bush and Brownie getting a heckuva warning before Katrina hit that the levees in New Orleans were likely be breached and coastal cities were directly in the line of fire of "the big one." Don't tell me these two aren't related. We can only expect increased frequency and severity of natural disasters as the climate continues to warm. Bush has hit a new low approval rating of 34%. Seriously, what would it take to get rid of this guy? Are there any interns in the White House of questionable sexual morals so we can get this guy impeached?

More from Faux News
Ah. Apparently this whole "civil war" problem isn't really true. Just another product of a vast left-wing conspiracy, I presume.

Last I saw (about two days ago), 300 Iraqis had died from violence directly resulting from The Golden Mosque bombing. If 300 Americans had been killed by other Americans, the media would be broadcasting non-stop that Armageddon had arrived.

You're Gonna Die
Happy Ash Wednesday. Remember that dust you are, and to dust you shall return. Check out these reflections on the day that kicks of Lent. Thanks to Charlie for his post.
